Question
Hello Again,
Ok, good and bad news. My bettas spawned, but, the nest is WAY to small. Its a  bought 1/2 inch by 1/2inch. He trys to shuv more and more eggs into the nest but, theres no more room, also about a little less that 10 eggs sit floating at the bottom of the nest. There is no bubble for them to fit into. Yesterday he had a great bubble nest going, but of course, when i woke it was popped. I went to school today and came home and saw that they had spawned. (I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED THE HOLE THING!) Should i take the female out now? And when to i take the male out? Will the eggs still become fry, the ones that are floating at the bottom of the nest,? The water level is getting low from evaporation in the tank, should i fill it up or should i wait for the fry to hatch?
Thanks in Advance!

Answer
Hello Kyle,
Congratulations!! finally your bettas did it!
Although the nest size is concerning me a little bit. It sounds way too small. The male should be keep building it and it should not pop that easily. The properly built nest should cover the whole cup and should be at lest 1/2 inches thick. Their bubble nest is very strong and it does not pop very much. It seems to me that your male is not that experienced. It will be ok, though. Just leave them alone and they should be fine.

Definitely take out the female if you have not. Male might try to kill her and it is too risky. She will not do anything more than stay in a corner, anyway. You can take out the male as soon as the fry are free swimming. If you start to see the fry swimming horizontally, you can take him out. Make sure you have food prepared for them. They should be fed three times per day as soon as they become free swimming. You can buy liquid fish food or give them a small amount of crushed hard boil egg yolk. You should feed just hatched brine shrimp when they are about a week old.

Do not add the water right now, as it will mess up the bubble nest. You can add them when the fry are free swimming. Make sure, when you add water, that you add gently because if the fry get swirled up in the huge waterfall, they can die.

I hope everything works out, Kyle!
I know it is a bummer if all the fun things happen while you are away in school!
