Question
Hello Nathan,
My name is George and I'm interested in joining AllExperts. I've been keeping fish for about 5 years, and I feel that I'm experienced enough. Well, here's my questions:

1)What qualifications/experience do you need to become an expert?
2)How do you become an expert?

Thanks have a nice day.

Answer
Hi George,

All you need to be an expert in a particular category is extensive knowledge in multiple aspects of the subject. For example, in the 'Freshwater Aquarium' category, it would make sense that one should know the basics of fish care, like maintenance, stocking, and general welfare. It would be also helpful to know, for example, various fish diseases and treatments, as well as some knowledge on various pieces of aquarium equipment and products. Obviously, you can't know everything, and that is why all the experts detail what they can and cannot answer in the introduction/expert's page.

To become an expert on AllExperts.com, you simply have to click the 'Volunteer to be an Expert in the category' link below the expert list for every category. You will then have to submit an application form detailing your experience, etc. Your application will either be accepted or rejected in a few days.

Sometimes, the 'become an expert' link is not available on categories with either a high number of experts, or a low question demand. In that case, you will have to wait until it 'opens up' again, or join a different category. My category, 'Freshwater Aquarium', is an extremely busy one, as you can tell, because almost all the experts are filled up to their quotas before half the day ends!

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
