Can guppies and baby bristlenosed catfish coexist?

Question
We have 30 or so bristlenosed catfish - haven't been babies for about 4 months - and one pigeon blood discus. Would guppies eat any future britlenosed babies? Someone told me guppies chase an eat their own babies but don't know if that's true. Anyone know from experience or knowledge?

Answer
Hi Hania

I can't tell you for sure, because I've never kept baby bristlenoses and guppies together :)  But, I would say there's a very good chance the guppies would eat the fry(babies) if they're small enough to fit in their mouths.  And, I wouldn't limit it to just guppies, I would say just about all fish would at least try to eat some of the fry when they're small enough.  And, yes it's true, guppies and other livebearers(mollies, platies, swordtails, etc) do eat their own fry.

Good luck!
