Question
My Black Ghost Knife is the biggest fish in my new 200ltr tank by far he is huge (25-30cm) I have 6 young cichlids 2x electric yellow 2x Blue mangarnos and 2x um, the blue with black stripes going the other way on their body (sorry) Anyway the rest are silver dollars, clown loach, bristle nose, rainbow and black sharks. All quite small compared to my black ghost so why is his beautiful long fin getting rips and bites taken out of it ? he has 2 pipes to live in he seems really happy to be in a bigger tank finally but his long fin is all bitten should i remove him asap ?
Thank you, Michelle

Answer
Michelle,

I will say that the fish is getting into some fights since your tank is over stalked. You have way too many fish in that tank, and you will continue to have troubles. The BGKF should not be in anything smaller than 75 gallons and that is with him being the only fish. I would remove him from that tank and get him a bigger one. When a tank is over crowded, many things can go wrong. Are you sure it isn't fin rot that is causing the problem? Since BGKF are virtually blind, i would say that other fish, maybe the sharks, are nipping at him when he passes them. I hope that you have a larger tank to put him in because if you don't you will most likely lose him. With all those fish, how are your water perimeters? How often do you do water changes? I hope this helps you.
