Question
HI,
I am in the process of buying a 55 gallon, fish only saltwater tank. My father thinks that it will weigh too much to set up in my house. My house is not built up on a concrete foundation; it is on pillars, but I think the floor will hold it. The fish we plan on purchasing will not be very large, and we don't plan on purchasing very heavy live rocks. I would like to know the approximate weight of the entire setup, not including the stand.

Answer
Alonzetta,
ballpark figure would be around 550lbs.
it is not the weight of the tank that is the issue it is the weight per sq. inch.
take the length X width this will give you lbs per sq. in.
there is more weight per sq.in from your washer, refridgerator and just about all other items that center their weight on 4 corners.
With the tank the weight is distributed across the entire span.
In short, there should be no problem.
