Plec and the bubble munching

Question
I have a strange question my Plec that I have had 4 years since it was 1"
critter nowa whopping 1' seems to like being upright not attached to the side
of the 30 gallon tank and munching onbubbles is this normal? Plec has been
a hoot sinceit chases its bubbles and does flips. Plec use tobe outside but
now plec is indoors for now due to a move. Plec appearshappy just seems to
be rather attached to the under surface of the water level muchin bubbles.
Let me know if this is normal or odd. Plec gets zuccs from time to time and
makes a wreck out of the tank with them.

Answer
Hi Christopher
That does sound kind of strange.  I can't say for sure what he's doing though.  I've read before, it was about goldfish though, that sometimes they may eat bubbles because of a swim bladder problem.  Plecos do occasionally gulp extra oxygen from the surface of the water, and I believe that has something to do with them regulating their swim bladder as well.  It's possible this is what he's doing.  Or, he just enjoys playing with the bubbles, like a fishie massage maybe :)

As long as your ammonia and nitrites are reading 0 ppm, and nitrates under 20 ppm, he's eating and acting fine otherwise, I'd just keep an eye on him.  Also be sure he's not struggling to stay in a certain position-like maybe he starts floating or sinking, or having a hard time swimming.  That may be an indicator of a swim bladder problem.  Also, try posting this to another expert, not sure if that'll help I don't recall seeing anyone with plecos listed as their "specialty", but someone may be more familiar with this.

Hope that helps and just keep an eye on him.  Let me know if you have more questions.
