goldfish in outside pond

Question
I had a bright idea of adding water to the pond (black plastic in ground)so i stuck the garden hose in the pond and let it overflow.  I was trying to make the water clearer.  Do you think that they did not have time to get adjusted to the new water coming in?  I have 1 big goldfish and 8 medium. 1 medium i noticed was floating on it side but still breathing, i took him out with the same water in the pond and I am trying to keep him cradled then i noticed my big goldfish was not moving around so i got a big container and put water from the pond in it and put both of them in it.  Do i have a chance of saving them?

Answer
Glenda,

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Let's see if I can help. The problem is, when you add water to a pond or aquarium, you always have to condition that water. In our tap water, there is chlorine and fish cannot handle that. So, when you add water to the pond, always add it via a bucket and not the hose. You can go to your local fish store and get a water conditioner.  There are quite a few on the market that work well. I use Kordon AmQuel+. It removes Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Chlorine and Chloramines from my tap water. It instantly makes my water safe for my fish. When I do water changes I do it by the gallon. For every gallon of water I add to my tank, I add an anti chlorine conditioner to that water BEFORE I add it to the tank. Ponds are the same way. The sooner you can get the anti chlorine the better chances you have of saving your fish. I hope this helps.
