Question
Hi Rachel,
Got a quick question for you. I'm still very new at this and still on my 1st aquarium but i've had a red-tail shark and i've recently noticed tiny white spots right on the tip of its top and bottom fins? anything to be concerned about?

Answer
Hey,

Do the little white spots look like little grains of salt? If so, it's ICH or White Spot, a condition, that left untreated can kill your fish. You can treat with a medication or with salt and turning up the temp in your tank. Which ever way you decide to treat, you must half the dosage rate of salt OR medication because your Red Tail Shark is a skin fish.

I would suggest going into your local fish shop and asking for a medication to treat White Spot but remember to tell them that you're treating a Red Tail Shark, so the medication dosage rate must be halved.

If you want to read more on ICH/White Spot, google it and you will find heaps of information as well as ways to hopefully cure it!
