Question
my one oscar poses in front of the other one goes vertical and shakes its fin is this mating behavior and if so why hasnt it worked

Answer
Hi Tom,
I'm not sure of your oscar is displaying mating behavior or territorial behavior. Most Oscar pairs who are planning on spawning will show behaviors such as lip-locking, tail-slapping, and quivering. You never know with your pair. It may be the beginnings of pre-spawning behavior.

I have seen oscars do this before, and usually it was a territorial display.

Cichlid behavior is always very interesting to watch, who knows your oscars may be thinking about spawning or your one may be reminding the other one "I'm the boss" you can never know with such moody fish as oscars!

Best wishes and happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
