I have a pair of red parrot fish, 4times it had layed eggs i dont know what happens thier eggs, then l thought other fishs will eat eggs,  then i separated  other fishs then too same thing happens . I think Red parrot eats its egg and diging problem . Plz give solution. And how to maintain them how to identify which is male & female

Answer
Hi Keerthigan,
The unfortunate thing is Parrot fish tend to be infertile and their eggs usually never hatch. Only once in a while will you get lucky and the eggs will be fertile.

The egg-eating your parrots are doing is common with cichlids and it is a habit that sometimes cannot be resolved. Some cichlids will eventually learn good parenting duties through repetition, but some just never do and you can't do much about it.

As far as identifying which is male and which is female, you can't tell very well through just coloration or fin-shape due to the many variations within this breed. But only when they are actually spawning can you tell by their spawning tubes and the 'egg-tubes' in the female.

This is a really good article about breeding parrots which may help you further-

Best wishes and I hope this helps!
