Question
a few months ago my aquarium go taken over by snails due to the addition of some live plants, i bought a yoyo loach and he immediately took care of snails until they were all gone.  in the past month i have moved my fish in to a bigger tank and when i added new plants i got snails again, but now the yoyo is not eating any of them, they're the same type of snail as before but their #'s are quickly increasing without the yoyo eating them.  is this normal and is there anything i can do to get him to eat them?

thanks.

Answer
Hey Chloe,

excellent choice! Yo-Yos and Khuli Loaches are my favorite snail eaters.

First off, make sure he isnt gorging himself on fallen flake, second, make sure he isnt a she ready to lay eggs. Third, and probably most importantly, add aquarium salt to slow and weaken the snails. They really, really dont like salt. Plus, it's good for the fish :)

Also, watch out for pH drops! Snail Shells are low pH and as they decay, will wreck your pH levels. Beware the fish killing pH droppers! I wouldnt fret too much over the snails. Hold back feeding for a day or two and the loach should change his mind on snail munchies. The rest of the fish wont suffer if they dont eat for a day or two either, so  no worries.

Best wishes, and good luck
