QuestionI have had my 55 gallon tank for many years. I recently moved now Im using a
differnnt source of water. When I do my water chages for some reason I now have
a black build-up on my gravel as well as my live plants what do I do. Thanks
AnswerHello,
It is likely just a thick coating of algae. It is possible that the water in your area has more phosphates or iron to promote the algae's growth.
The stuff on the gravel can mostly be removed with weekly gravel syphoning. Some algae is ok on the plants, but any leaves that become covered in it should be removed. Also, you may want to decrease the amount of sunlight/UV light that your aquarium gets to help discourage the algae's growth.
I hope this helps.
