Help! Sick Betta here!

Question
Hello,

I have a betta fish and I keep him in a betta bowl on my desk.  Just the past couple of day's I noticed that he has white spots on his head with a tad bit of red also.  his color looks good still, except for his head, and he is not swimming much today or eating.  I believe he has a bacterial infection of some sort and I was going to buy some BettaFix today! Do you agree with this? or is there something else I should know about.  I am a fairly new fish owner; and I want to help this poor guy out as fast and correct as possible.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Melissa,
Your betta may have ich which is caused by poor water quality. Ich will give a salt grain appearance and usually spreads over the body rapidly. I would use aquarium salt at 1 teaspoon per two and a half gallons for this. Turn up the heater a few degrees as this will speed up the life of the parasite.

Regards,
Chloe.
