disease or wound?

4 month tank. gold barbs. 2. whisper filter ph 6.6 safe ammonia. every week or other week water changes. 2 gallon changes

My gold barb, male i believe, has a little pus like bump. It is just past his gill. It looks like there is a little pink beneath it. I do not have other aggresive fish so i dont know how/ if he got hurt that way. This bump is new.

I've had the same thing happen with probably 25% of my gold barbs and I don't know what it is. Sometimes it just goes away, sometimes it gets big and ruptures, exuding a whitish cheesy substance. I have tried many different remedies but nothing really seems to work. You could try Maracyn Two, Kanacyn or a medicated food. It may slow it down a bit. Just one of those weird ailments I guess. Wish I could help more...
