Question
I had three plecostomus and one died now one has a milky white color on his head like patches could you tell me what you think that it might be?

Answer
Hi Carol,

Your Plecostomus has Columnaris, or cottony growth disease. It is a bacteria infection, and can be treated with any anti-bacterial medication at your local fish store. Some common brands include: Maracyn, Maracyn-2, MelaFix, Sera Baktopur, and many others.

Remove the carbon from your filter, and dose according to the package. Perform a 40% water change before adding the medication.

With good treatment, your fish should recover in a week or so.

Good luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
