Question
Hi, i have a 75 gallon freshwater with a wide variety of fish. Recently i have seen white dots (like ich, but not as numerous) on my mollies, 1 of my 2 platys, my yoyo loach, and my discus. It is not spreading toward any of the other fish and only seems to be affecting the behavior of the yoyo loach (more skittish) one of the 2 mollies (will be swimming, suddenly stop, body goes vertical, and starts shaking for about 5 seconds, then swims again?), and one platy (mickey mouse... swims slowly, skittish, fish drawn in)
I dont have any idea what this would be, as it isnt spreading to other fish like ich does. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer
Ben,
Even though the dots are not spreading, it still sounds like Ich. Usually, we say to remove the ill fish and treat in your hospital tank but because so many fish are showing the symptoms, it would be best to treat the whole tank. I do not get Ich very often, but I treat it with aquarium salt and up the temp of the water. The cooler the water is, the longer it takes the Ich to run its cycle. In cooler water it can take up to six weeks, sometimes longer. In water that is around 84-85 degrees it can take 3 to 4 days. Since I do not know what all is in the tank, I would get medication that treats Ich. Remember to remove the carbon in the filter, and follow the direction on the packaging.
