Question
The tank has been set up for 2 1/2 weeks, it is 55 gallons. Their are 6 neon tetras, 4 black phantom tetras, 4 dwarf gouramis, and 5 zebra danios. The filter is a power 30-60 gallon, and we have an additional 5-15 gallon power filter, both having biofilters. Ph is 7.6(in our tap water and tank) ammonia and nitrite is at 1.0 ppm. We do a 25% water change every week. My question is how can i lower my ph naturally without tablets and chemicals?

Answer
Hi Derick;

The pH in your tank is actually just fine. As your tank ages it will naturally drop lower anyway. Your tetras would like some driftwood or bogwood though. It will slowly and naturally lower the pH over time if you want to try it. Just boil it for a couple of hours or soak it in a bucket for several days and change the water in the bucket every day. When the water is no longer brown or yellow, you can put it in the tank. Here is a link to an article with more info on adding wood to your tank;
