Question
QUESTION: Hi. You've helped me with previous problems before. I have a 10 gallon tank with baby cichlids. I think they're about 3 months old. The biggest one is a little over an inch long. There are 21 baby fish in the tank. The temp is usually about 79-80 degrees. I do a water change once a week with gravel vacuum also. My main question right now (still dealing with algae - green water) is what can I do with these babies. Do we sell them?  Should we try to wait until they're bigger? The one mother that had some of these babies is still alive --- and now has more eggs!  So, I need to figure out what to do.  We have one 55 gallon tank and the other is the 10 gallon. We weren't planning on having so many. I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thank you :)

ANSWER: Hi Pearl:  What I do with my baby fish is I call the local fish store and ask them if they will take them.  Many times they will give you fish credit which you can spend in their store... Most places like the fish to be about an inch in length or larger... If that doesn't pan out then let me know... dave

QUESTION: Hi again. I have another problem I'm not sure what to do. I've moved the female fish with the eggs in her mouth to the 10 gallon tank.  Now I see another female and she has eggs also. Can I move her into the tank with the other female. I don't have anymore tanks. I figured I would let them have their babies, then take the babies to the pet store when they're big enough.

Answer
Pearl:  You make me laugh... You remind me of myself when I started keeping cichlids... the next thing I knew I had 22 tanks and 4000 cichlid babies.  I would put the two females together and get a tank divider to keep them and their broods apart.  Keep me posted...dave
