Question
I have a small tank I believe its 10 gallons. I only have one black moor and an algae eater. My black moor has been living since a week before Christmas and Wednesday February 8th I went and got an algae eater. Then today February 10th my black moor was and still is floating on his side and riding the filter water that is pouring into the tank. He will swim around a little but not a lot and just floats all over the tank he even gets stuck on the filter at the bottom where it is sucking in water. I thought it was because I added the algae eater in the tank but the algae eater is fine. I really dont know what to do because hes not gasping for air or anything. I havent fed him all day. My pH levels in the water are normal and so is the temperature. Please help!!!

Answer
Dana,
You mentioned the Ph levels normal, but what is the level? I also need to know what the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. What is the temperature of the water? I need as much information as you can give me. It sounds like the goldfish has swim bladder disease. Fast the fish for 2 days, on day 3 feed it a cooked shelled pea, and then fast again for 2 days. Let me know, as soon as you can, what the temperature is, and what the readings are for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. A 10 gallon tank is not big enough for the black moor. The minimum size tank is 20 gallons with a filter made for a larger tank. Goldfish are one of the messiest fish and really need to be in the right size home. Also, goldfish are cold water fish and the pleco is a tropical fish. They should not be in the same tank. I will wait to hear back from you with answers to my questions.
