Help with dying fish

Question
About 5 weeks ago I replaced my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium with an Aqueon  125 gallon overflow. I kept as much water as possible, & have the bio wheels floating in the sump of my new filter.  My tank has a lot of plants, Carrib Sea black substrate for plants, 8 scissors tails, 7 tetras, 4 balloon Mollies, approx. 22 other assorted platies, approx. 25 assorted guppies, and some fry in the anacharas floating in the middle.  I added the live bateria & I still lost some fish when I transferred, which I expected. Have an API test kit, & the water have been testing the water weekly.  The nitrites, nitrates, & ph have been a little high, but today all looks good except the ph is still about 7.8.  I did about a 40% water change last night, & today I have found 4 more dead fish.  I find them 4-5 days a week, always 1-2, mostly guppies & platies.  I have no idea what to do.

Answer
Hi Kathy,
I've found that even when transferring water and the filters into your new aquarium from the old you will still have a ammonia or nitrite problem. The tank just still needs that extra time to get established. You are doing your best by changing the water. I've had to use ammonia neutralizers before like Ammo-lock. With time your tank will get established.

I hope this helps, its best to treat your tank as one that hasn't been completely cycled yet.

Karen~
