golden snail

Question
My daughter wants to take her golden snail to school for a day (about 7 hours) in a jar or plastic container.
Is this a good idea?
I worry that it will get too cold or not have enough air bubbles.

Answer
Hi Lynn,
The snail will probably be OK but it depends on how careful she is with it. And if other kids would have access to the snail its possible he could very well be overly handled and put in danger from a cracked  shell or drying out too much when handled.

Golden snails have a special breathing organ that enables them to breath air above the surface. Temperature changes might be stressful depending on the severity of the fluctuation.

All in all is probably best not to risk it-- The little snail wouldn't be very happy and would probably spend most of his time closed up inside his shell.

Hope this helps!
