dropsy treatment

I noticed my goldfish starting to swell and his scales looked a little strange. After reading, I think it looks like dropsy. I started him on Maracyn-Two last night in a separate tank than my other fish. When I looked at him this morning, there was black cottony looking stuff floating on the bottom of the tank. It also appeared to be on his body. I have looked all over and cannot find anything. Do you know if this is normal for the medication, is his body disposing of some infection?

This may simply be that he is losing slime coat from the infection. I recommend still using the medicine. If he starts to look worse, then you may want to begin perusing other avenues. For example- if it is not his slime coat, it may be a fungus. For now though, stick with the Maracyn-2. It is a great product. If your goldfish is in a heated tank you may also want to turn the temperature up a few degrees.
