Question
Hi Chris, I followed your advice on moving my black moor and common goldfish to their new home 55 gallons this morning...both looked fine swimming around but as day progressed the moor would sit on bottom for long periods of time, until feeding time, then he'd swim to surface for dry flakes..should i be concerned with his constant sleeping on floor?  I added some peas in tank?  I checked ph 7.3 but don't have ammonia tester...should I?  Should I make water changes?  Can I add my gold snails?  I'm more concerned right now with moor's health.  The common seems great! Thanks so much for your advice! Lori

Answer
Hi Lori;

He may still need to get used to the bigger and deeper tank. It's only been a short time. Moving can cause stress and slight shock too, even when done carefully. Just keep movement and disturbance in the room to a minimum for a few days.

You might want to wait on adding the snails. They are pretty abundant waste producers and the tank's bio-system is so new. Snails need supplemental food until algae grows too. Some don't even like algae so they still need other food. The peas are good for them. They eat green beans, romaine lettuce, squash, etc. too. Here is a great web site about the bigger types of snails (Is that what you have?);
