setting up fish tank etc.

Hi, Nori could you tell me if it is ok? Ihave put a piece of driftwood i purchased from my pet shop into my tank  i soked it over night to clean it and help it sink inow notice the tank water has turned slightly brown coloured my fish seem ok will the dicolouration do any harm? ta "H"

Hi - I also had the drift wood tainted water once.
It takes a long, long time, but as I remember the taint eventually does go away. Frustrating, isn't it? Anyway, the fish love hiding places. If it bothers you, let it soak in a different pot. Be sure to use purified water. Also, to reduce general cloudiness in the tank, feed less than you think you should. Over feeding clouds the tank. Combined with a new piece of driftwood, it just makes it worse. For instructions to avoid overfeeding, see:

The driftwood won't hurt the fish, but over feeding will.
