new tank--what fish to get for it?

Question
Hi I just bought a new 4 gallon biOrb tank.  the link to it is right here...www.biorb.com
I was wondering what the right kind of fish and the right environmental fit would look like.  I was told that you could put 1 fish for every gallon of water.  I was thinking of getting maybe 2-3 small goldfish (fan-tail in particular) and I hear that its a good idea to get some sort of bottom feeder as well, such as cories.  Any ideas about what kind of fish to get would be greatly appreciated.

my girlfriend has a small two gallon tank that has 2 goldfish (one which is about 6 inches long) and the other being a fan-tail.  they've thrived and have had them since early summer, so I figured getting two or three fish for a 4 gallon tank wouldn't be so bad.

Thank You!

Answer
Hello,

Yes, 2 or three fish would be just fine in 4 gallons. I would say stick to three max, and two would fit more comfortably.

I am unfamiliar with biorbs, do they have heaters? If so then you can get many different kinds of fish. Neon or cardinal tetras would look stunning in that tank and if you found smaller ones you could potentially have a school of 3-5.

You don't need a bottom feeder, and for a tank with so little bottom I think it would be better not to get one. Instead I think you should stick to one species so that you can have a little school.

If the biorb is not heated, then I think goldfish would be your best bet. They are one of the more colorful coldwater fish.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the 'right environmental fit'. If you would like to clarify that part of the question, I'd be happy to answer it as well.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
