My Fish is not swimming right.

Question
I recently bought some goldfish and when I got them home everything was fine. I have now noticed that one of them is not using its tail while swimming. I have seen it ether slowly moving to the top of the tank or sort of drifting to the bottom using its fins but its tale is always still. It seems to be eating ok though. Please can you help me find out what is wrong with it???

Thanks

Answer
Hi Lisa,

Your Goldfish may have Swim Bladder Disease, or it may simply be stressed from handling and transport. Swim Bladder can be the result of various bacterial infections. Perform 20% water changes every two days. If the goldfish is actively feeding, it may not be sick, but try this: Feed the sick goldfish some fresh or defrosted peas. Peas work miracles for Goldfish, and have been known to cure many problems, including swim bladder disease!

See this site for more info on swim bladder disease:

Good Luck, I hope your goldfish recovers!
