Question
i have a mickey mouse fish who i think is pregnant. she has a belly and you can see black dots in her belly and alittle orange. i have her sperated in one of the containers from petsmart. i am not sure how long she has been pregnant for. i am wondering is it ok that i have her in there, i don't want her to freak out being in there too long. i put a fake plant in there to comfort her more. how long can she stay in there?

Answer
Hi Dana,  Mickey Mouse Platty. Im not sure what container you have her in. There are 2 ways. Youu haveher in one of those boxes that float. The fry fall down into the tank through slits in the bottom.
Or
There is a "V" divider in the box and the fry fall through it to the bottom half. You can keep the fish in there until the fry arrive as long as the tank it is floating in is filtered and the water is able to get circulated through it. The fake plant is of no use. Its not a harm but honestly it is only making you feel better not the fish. She won't freak out. If you are seeing black dots the fry should arrive within 2 weeks.
My question is: what are you going to do with the little guys? Do you have a seperate tank for them to grow in? Do you have things set up to hatch Brine Shrimp for them to eat. A constant supply is needed. Growing fry is very rewarding. I've raised thousands. It gives you more good feelings than it does $$$$$. It also takes daily care of the little fish. Lots of work.
If you have a seperate tank that you plan to grow them in I'd just put the female in. Watch her and then when the fry arrive remove the female fast.
