Mollys and salt

Question
Hi Karen,  I have a 29 gal. tank that has 2 of each fish, molly's, platy's, angel fish gourami's, and cory catfish.  Would it be safe to add a tbs of salt to my tank? I know molly's need salt, but, would the salt hurt my other fish?
They have been doing good, so far, but, I have lost Molly's, on occasion, and I don't know why.

Thank you,
Toni

Answer
Hi Toni!

Salt is not necessarily needed to keep mollies healthy longterm. Although many of them do thrive with it added. Your other fish won't appreciate it too much salt. The corydoras won't especially.

Fortunately most mollies have been farmed and kept in freshwater and at petstores they are usually kept in freshwater so they have already been adapted to such. The important things are keeping their water clean and warm. And making sure they have a varied diet with plenty of vegetables.

Best wishes and I hope this helps!
