Question
i have a 29 gallon freshwater tank set up with two 5-15 filters. will this work out well for tropical fish or should i add an air pump? it has been brought up to correct temp and for two weeks now. the water is crystal clear and i am wondering if i should start to introduce fish slowly to it??

Answer
Hi Shaun,
I think the two filters will work fine and likely just as well as a one big filter rated for a 30gallon tank. And this should be all the oxygenation your tank needs. Airpumps aren't always necessary.

You can definitely start slowly adding fish to it. Introduce a hardy species such as Danios, most tetras, white clouds, or barbs. Ideally you'd have test kits at home to test regularly (about everyday) for ammonia and nitrite since its likely your tank hasn't cycled yet. But I have gotten away with very slow gradual stocking and bringing weekly water samples to my petstore and have them test it for me.

The best way to know when its safe to add more fish is to find out of your ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0. And the current fish seem happy and healthy of course.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
