Do I have eggs?

25 9:06:03

Question
I have a 10 gallon tank.  I have a pleco, a platy and unfortunately my favorite,
my tetra die yesterday.  No one could tell me what was wrong with him.
Regardless, on the bottom  (and some floating on top) are these small egg-like
objects.

There are at least 50 of them.  Stuck to the sunken ship, plants and the gravel.
They are round in shape and about the size of a pea.  There is a fuzzy white
outside, clear and in the very middle it a brownish-red something.

I read that platys dont lie eggs, my tetra was very skinny and I dont know about
the pleco.

Please any info you can give me would be wonderful.

Thank you,
Christina

Answer
Hey Christina!

They are most likely eggs, the way you described it sounds exactly like eggs. Fish like to hide their eggs on areas live you described.

It definatly wasn't the platy that laid the eggs, because like you already know they give birth to live babies.

I'm not sure whether it would be the tetra or the pleco that laid the eggs. It would make sense for both of them.

A good reason it could be the tetra is because it died, a lot of mother fish end up dieing after birth. It doesn't sound like it was the tetra because you said it was really skinny, which could have been why it died.

So it could have been the pleco, since it is an egg laying fish and it wasn't thin.

I would guess that which ever fish was recently bought in a fish store or that you had more of the same species of. For example, if you had the pleco for a year and you bought the tetra two weeks ago, the tetra is the only one that could have bred with another fish.

I hope my info helped you out, if you have any more questions feel free to ask. good luck with the eggs!
