Fish coloration

Question
I would like to know what makes a fish lose its color in a fresh water tank?

Answer
Hi Voelkerding,
Thank you for your letter. There are a couple things it could be.
1) Some fish are artifically colored. The color wears off after some time. They feed them some sort of dye that makes them more colorful.
2) Lack of appropriate organic biology in the tank. Add friendly bacteria, using a product like "Cycle." Or other friendly bacteria natural care product.
3) Overfeeding. Fish food has animal products that rot in the tank and sap the fish's natural energy.
