Question
hi Chris,

i have a chiclid fish (jack dempsey) i had him for less than a year he is about 6 inches in length and 1/2 in width
i use an aqua clear filter.we change the water every month or so. but because of a busy schedule i haven't been able to in the last 2 months. anyways today i noticed that he had like long stringy slime coming out of his gills and then it all made sense as to why he has been swimming at the bottom, hiding and wobbling. i did some research and learned that i should do an immediate  water change which I'm in the process of doing, but what else do i need to do? what kind of antibiotics can i use ? and where can i get it? is it strong enough to kill him? what other options do i have? and finally I'm i taking the right steps thus far?
your help will be greatly appreciated! i luv this little guy and i want to help him get through this! thanks for your help  !!!

Answer
Hi Samantha;

Go to your local fish store and look for medications for gill infections. The packages have symptoms listed on them. Use them according to the instructions on the label. Look at him carefully for other symptoms too so you can get the right medicine.

I hope he feels better soon...
