Question
Hi,
Thanks for your information on Kuhli's and Dovii'.
And can you give me the email address or phone number of your local aquarium.
Well Karen i am experiencing some problems with my gold fish.
In my 50 Gallon tank i have
2 white gold (albino gold)
2 ryuikin
1 corydoras
2 angels ( which are still babies)

1 SINGLE TAIL GOLD
2 HUGE FAN TAIL GOLD FISH(I ADDED THEM ONLY
YESTERDAY)

Well the thing is that one of the ryuikin and the single tail goldfish are trying to mate with a huge gold which i added only yesterday. Last time the gold fish's tummy was big. Will the same become this time too?

Should i separate them. Please tell me when i can expect the fry to be delivered.

Answer
Hello Srinivas!

Well, my favorite local aquarium store is a small shop and is run by people who have been working there for many years. The shop is called "The fishbowl" don't know why but they do have a really good selection of fish species, some common and some rare. Unfortunately I live in the United States in belton, Texas. I don't know if they would be able to maybe send you a fish or not. Have you asked your local fish shop yet? I don't know much how india's tropical fish farms run or how the petstores are but I am sure if you checked around enough you would be able to find a Dovii cichlid. I have searched the internet for tropical fish farms in india and I had no results! I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help at all....

~Goldfish Spawning~
It's best to seperate two different goldfish varieties if they are trying to breed. It's best not to let your single tail goldfish breed with the fantail. Doing so would certainly result in bad deformed fry. The fry might be healthy  but they won't grow into high quality fish. For the best results you should pair goldfish only with a mate of the same variety. You can tell when goldfish are ready to breed when the female of course gets plumper as she becomes ripe with eggs. Meanwhile, the male goldfish develops whitish bumps on his gill covers and the foreward edges of his pectoral fins (which should not be mistaken for parasites). These differences disappear when breeding season ends after a few weeks. The most obvious clue that spawning is about to happen is the frenzied dash you have been seeing. The breeding chase usually begins in the morning and can last several hours. Sometimes it goes on throughout the day and into the evening. It may even resume in the morning. In a chase the male is attempting to squeeze the female goldfish against anything solid to literally force out the ripe eggs out of her and scatter them in her wake.

While most female goldfish lay about 1,500 eggs in one spawning. You must remember that only half of that will be fertilized leaving around a more acurate tally of 750 viable eggs. You may already know this but for the first few days the goldfish larvae feed off their yolk sacks until that is exhausted then you should feed them live food. Dahnia or water fleas as it often called is a great first food. Another option as a first food is a hard boiled egg run through a blender with a little water. Feed this at a rate of a few drops per gallon several times a day. Always be careful not to pollute the water.

Well I hope my knowledge was of some help! Here's wishing you the best of luck with your dovii cichlid search. I'm sorry again that I couldn't help you out on that subject as much as I wish I could have.

Remember we call talk anytime, you can email me your questions as much as you want on whatever problem you have...I am so very happy to help you out all I can, Srinivas!

Happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
