Question
Hi Michael - we have set up a new tank last Sunday and put into the filter bacteria which is supposed to mean you can add fish straight away.  Currently we have 3 adult platies and about 5 tiny babies in the tank.  When should we be safe to add some more and how many at a time please. My other tanks are overcrowded so I am desparate to get some more fish moved!  Many thanks :-) (PS Also, would babies not effect the water so much as they are so tiny?)

Answer
lucy,
you can add more fish in at any time.
I would add 6 or so depending on size, if they are all platies then no issue, you could up that to 10 with no trouble.
give it a few days, then add more.
test for ammonia to be sure that you are not spiked.
Set up a schedule for 10% water changes starting now.
enjoy the new tank.
