Question
I want to purchase 2 or 3 celestial goldfish, how big should my tank be? is there any special instructions?

Answer
Hi Linda,

The answer to your question is - as big as you can afford and as is practical! If you're talking about minimum tank size, I would say 2 celestial goldfish in a 29 gallon tank is about right. Three goldfish should have a 40 gallon tank or so. The more "floor space" the better.

The one caveat about celestial goldfish is that you need to make sure your decor and your filter will not endanger your goldfish - I have heard of way too many telescopic eyed goldfish getting their eye sucked out with the gravel vacuum or punctured by a rock! Yeeooouch!

Make sure the gravel is rounded (not sharp) or if you're using sand, make sure it's not sharp. Plants should be silk, ideally, but plastic can work as long as there are no sharp plastic edges. Rocks should be gently rounded and smooth - no lava rock, coral, quartz, etc.

These articles will all be very helpful to you regarding general goldfish care. If you can meet their needs (hard, alkaline water and a diet based on "green" foods) they'll make you happy for years!
