Question
I have two fish, which were given to me by a friend, I don't know what kind they are.  They are grey, with two vertical black stripes on the middle of their sides.  One is about 2in long and the other about 1 1/2in.  They have large rectangular dorsal and anal fins which are very dark grey or black, their tails are split down the middle, with a long pointy "feather" at the end of the top and bottom half of the tail.  Their fins are a very light color,  which is translucent, the same color as the tail.  Could you identify what kind of fish they are.

Answer
Hi Claire
My first thought, is a black skirt tetra aka: black widow tetra.  Here's a few links with photos of them:

There's also another "variety", I can't find the exact name, I think it's veiled black skirt tetras.  I have both kinds in one of my tanks.  The veiled kind has longer flowing fins and tail.  Here's a photo of that kind, but gives the same name for it as the other one:

If that's not it, let me know, and I'll post my email.  If you can send a photo that would help a lot!
