Question
After a disaster with my other tropicals(I will now always quarintine new fish),I have decided to set up a livebearer only tank.Am I able to keep guppies and platy's together? I want to go brickish water, I know guppies are ok but what about other livebearers?

Answer
Guppies are not brackish.  Brackish water (when done right) is half way between freshwater and saltwater.  You would be using "instant ocean" or a similar brand.  If you talking about just dumping in some aquarium salt, then that is another matter and most fish prefer not having salt.  Guppies and Platies are freshwater, Mollies can handle low brackish water (and some varieties prefer is).  If you want a livebearer tank, skip the salt and get some Guppies, Swords and Platies.  If you can find them you can also get some Endler's Liverbearers.  FYI, Livebearers are just as finicky as other tropicals, the best way to ensure success is research.  Here's a link to a site with a great E-book for beginners and those with more experience.
