Question
I recently had one of my two clown loaches die. I was wondering if the algea fix i put in could have killed him because he has no scales. his slime coat was in good health. he was in a 65 gallon aquarium were the water perimiters were perfect. thx. also right before he died hew stopped eating his favorite food, blood worms.

Answer
Hi Ryan,
I am sorry to hear about your fish.  I am not sure if Algae Fix is what is killing the fish.  I dont believe it does, but I have heard other aquarist also mentioning their fish died because of that algae treatment.  It could be a coincidence or it could be true.  However I would suggest you find an alternative way to fix the algae rather than adding meds.  Alternative ways such as reducing photoperiod or decreasing wattage.  Algae needs light to thrive and cutting down light will hinder its growth.  Medications should be a last priority as you dont want to dose a tank with different kinds of meds to fix abnormalities.
It is hard to say what has happened.  You said his slime coat is in good health and water parameters are perfect.  When you checked the "parameters" did you including checking ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate concentrations?  Water quality is the number 1 cause of death in community fish.  Im assumming the fish has no visible symptoms.  It could be due to constipation or internal parasites.  But before we jump to conclusions about it being a type of disease or parasite, double check on the water parameters.  After any fish dies in an aquarium, a 50% water change must be done to reduce the risk of other fish dieing IF the water is the culprit.  Better safe then sorry.  Fish diseases is not my area of expertise, I'm sorry I cant help you further.
