Question
I have 2 Oscars, about 3 years old. About a month ago one of them starting developing very small pits on her head. I inquired at the local fish store and initially they gave me Melafix, I told them it might be HITH but they said it could be just a little fighting going on between them. I used this and it still progressed. I next tried another product he gave me Coppersafe, still nothing and continued progressing over the next week or so. I did research and found that Paragon is used, but I tried it for a week and it still continued. Additional research led me to Flagyl. Since I have a friend that is a pharmacist I obtained and began dosing, 250mg per 10g. I am on my 3rd dosing and wish to increase it to 400mg per 10g as I read an article stating this was called for in advanced cases. I do a 25-30% water change everyother day, added salt @ 1 tbsp per 10g and raised tank temp to 81, it was 79. I also have been adding vitamins to their pellets. I am will to try anything to reverse this. She still is eating and other than the marks does not seem in bad condition. What do you suggest, increasing the dose or something else. Any info is appreciated, thank you.

Answer
It does sound like hole in the head disease. There is only one medication that i have use and it worked great.
It healed all of them up.It is called paragon. You can find it at your pet store. You use this for three days .Adding it every other day.so actually you will use it 3 days out of six days. The ideal temp for your tank is between 81 degrees and 84 degrees. An oscar thrives in these temps.Try getting some paragon. It should help. But when you use this your power filter can not be working. After your six days is up start your power filter again.
I hope this helps you. They can get this disease from eating infected gold fish.
