Question
QUESTION: I asked for your explanation of the two different answers you gave me re: Pop-eye and whether they will  make it or not, as your were not clear in either answer, which were complete opposites.  Instead of answering this very important question for me, you chose to tell me you don't answer follow-up questions, as I had asked for a Yes or No opinion re: Goldfish or Tropicals.  Why are you not answering my question, about the gaffe you made about Pop-eye fishes life span?

ANSWER: Marian,

I do not know what you mean by not answering follow-up questions. I have answered every question that you have asked. As for the pop eye. Yes, I stated that pop eye can be treated with medication, and that yes by the time you notice this problem, it usually means there is a big problem going on in the fish. If you catch it right away and start treatment, you have a chance of healing it. If it is NOT noticed right away and the disease continues, pop eye can be fatal. As for goldfish or tropical, I do not know what it is you are asking? If you are asking if you can put them in the same tank, the answer is no. If you are asking what the difference is between the 2, one is cold water (goldfish) one is heated (tropical). If you are asking which you should do, I don't know. It is a personal preference. Each water type has its easy fish, aggressive fish, illnesses and injuries.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: About the Goldfish versus Tropicals, I am considering on just having one type.  I know Goldfish get Swim Bladder diseasse, Pop-eye, constipation, tail & fin fungus, body fungus, Columnaris.  The Freshwater Tropicals I have now (Betta, Algae Eaters, Cory Catfish, Pleco) have never had any problems or illnesses.  So, I wanted to know if fish like Platys get a lot of illnesses like the Goldfish do, also?  I like the Platys (cute, colourful, fast, swim in schools).  The Platy fish is probably the ones I would go for were I to find new homes for my Goldfish.  Basically, I didn't want to know about all Freshwater Tropicals, mainly the Platy fish.  I realize, now, and I am sorry for this, that I was never specific on which Tropical fish I had in mind on getting.  Are Platys illness prone, like my Goldfish, or are they a hardy, and basically, healthy-type of fish?  I checked the Internet before asking you, so I DID try to research this myself, as I always do before I ask you, but I got no where.

Answer
All fish can get any and all of the diseases you have mentioned above. It is up to the owner (you) to make sure everything is right. Keep the water clean, feed the right food, keep the water at the right temp all of this contributes to healthy fish. The Platy is a hearty fish and one of the easiest to keep but it too can get sick.
