Aggressive Firemouth

Question
I have recently bought a second hand tropical fish tank and all its inhabitants.  Amongst them there are 2 Firemouth and a Red Tail shark.  The 2 Firemouths are terrorizing the Red Tail shark and and Electric Yellow.  It has become so bad that the shark will not come out from it's hiding place but the Firemouths both go into the hiding place to fight with him.  In the past day the shark has reappeared with chewed fins and scarring on his body.  I have now removed the largest Firemouth and put him/her in a separate tank.  Will this resolve the problem or should I remove the other Firemouth.  At the moment the shark is swimming happily until he spots the remaining Firemouth then he hides again.  But while both where in the tank he never appeared at all.  Your advice would be very welcome.

Answer
Hi Tommy,
You did the right thing with removing the aggressive firemouth. I'm afraid there is probably nothing you can do to keep that fish from being aggressive to the shark.

I would only remove the other firemouth if he is making the shark miserable. I feel you are the best person to determine what should be done.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
