QUESTION: i have 3 pairs of German Blue Ram of 4 months of age. 2 pairs of them are already spawning. water quality being kept good with neutral pH and temperature 20-22 degree C, recently white spots are visible on the body and fins of 2 fish. i wonder what the problem and solution would be. help needed as i want to cure them ASAP. Thanks!

ANSWER: Sounds like ick.  Increase the temperature to the mid 80's, add about a T of aquarium salt per gallon, and do 25% water changes every day for about a week.  This should clear them up quickly.

but my tank size is 48 US gallon. and 48 tsp of salt in it sounds a lot of salt. will there be any other associated problems like stopping to spawn or something.

It just may be that the physical strain from the spawning may make them more suseptable to this parasite.  There are chemicals you can purchase to rid yourself of this nasty parasite, I personally just like to do things more naturally, this is not more correct, it just is a different way.  It sounds like a lot of salt, but 48t is exactly 1 cup.  You need only do this once, and you don't have to remove your carbon as with the chemicals.  Increasing the temp and adding the salt causes the parasites to detach from the fish then without a suitable host they die.
