Question
Hello, i have some new bog in my tank, it has been kinda of pre soaked. But i now notice that there is some kind of thin white strands growing of the wood, almost looks like mould. Was thinking of just scrubing the wood, what do you think? Cheers for any help, one other thing i keep 8 x Rosy Tetras, 5 x Coolie Loaches and 6 x Neons, but could reccomend a couple of bigger fish for interest. I have kept Discus before but i don't have the time now to care for them, i was thinking Killi fish? Thank you so much, Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,

I would remove the item and dip it in boiled water and try and remove some of the additional residue that's causing the problem.  You can try and scrub it with a soft toothbrush and some aqaurium salt and rinse it in water that came from the tank thouroughly.

It's a little difficult to advise you on what other kinds of fish to get without knowing how large your tank is.  You probably have a fairly large tank because loaches and bigger barbs like the rosy barbs need at least a 50 gallon tank.  You have plenty of middle and bottom dwellers.  If you want some top swimmers try a school of long finned zebra danios, these are very pretty and very active.  You could also try a school of harlequin rasboras, also active and top swimmers.  Golden killifish will dwell near the top but if you are looking for active fish, these aren't it.  They remind me of some of the smaller tetras that just pick a spot and seem to just stay there and twitch all day like rio von flame tetras do.  You could also try a larger gourami, not a dwarf species, they will get picked on, but one like the blue or gold gourami.  These are nice, large fish and could be the showpiece of your tank.

Good luck: ) April M.
