koi and chiclids?

Question
hello! i have a 100 gallon tank (huge filter system, 39inch compact light, and driftwood) my art teacher needs me to look after her 3 4inch koi for the winter. But since its only for a little bit, i want to keep african chiclids in there. the ph is about 8.2. will the ph of 8.2 be ok for the koi? (if not i can lower it i dont have any fish in there right now) i am just curious and also do you think i could house the koi with some chiclids around the same size? or will the the koi be terrorized. because i know koi can be aggressive to. i would add the koi before the chiclids that way territory is established by the koi. my main concern is the ph. any ideas? thanks so much :)

Answer
Hi Amber,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But putting aggressive/territorial African Cichlids with relatively peaceful Koi would probably be a bad idea. The Koi will be fine with the water conditions as long as they are acclimated slowly to that pH if their pond pH is different. Koi are pretty hardy for the most part. Just make sure they are carefully acclimated to the tank's pH if their pond water is different.

The cichlids would probably be too aggressive for the Koi unfortunately. It might work out, but it could cause more problems then its worth. The Koi might even swallow small african cichlids!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! :(

But best of luck and I hope this helps!
Karen~
