AnswerHi Teaghan,
One adaptation is the colors they have developed. Bright colors, to other wild fish, often denote a poisonous fish. So, this is a defense mechanism. By adapting to its environment, developing bright colors and a yellow tail, they stave off predators much better.
As it grows, it changes colors.
As a juvenile, the Emperor is born with what look like rings by the 2nd half of the body. Know why? It looks like a big eye to a predator, who would bite the tail instead of the head, giving the fish a chance to survive and get away by running away from the predator as it goes for the rear. If a predator goes for the front, the fish often can't escape.
I don't want to give you the answers, so I'd like you to continue reading at http://www.fishchannel.com/saltwater-aquariums/species-info/angelfish/marine-ang...
But, those are some things I know, that are not published.
Happy fish-keeping and writing!
