Plant Snails

I don't know if you'll be able to answer this, but how do those little black snails form when you have live plants in your aquarium? Thanks!

Hi Shelby,
What happens is the snails hitchhike as eggs or tiny newborn hatchlings on live plants. They go unnoticed at the store and during transport and boy are they good at sneaking into your tank. At least they tend to be more beneficial than bad. They are excellent at cleaning up bits of uneaten food and debri and as long as they aren't allowed access to overfeeding, their population level will remain reasonable.
