Insecticide accidently in tank

Question
I have just lost a fish and a couple more are starting to swim poorly. We believe we may have got some insecticide in the water. Apart from changing water are there any specific cleaning instructions? Does the effect diminish over time with the water changing and changing the filter?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Randy,
Insecticide is very deadly to fish, I used to have some aquatic turtles that died from spray getting in the tank.  They are a lot more hardy than fish too.  The best way to get rid of the insecticide is either by changing out the water or adding activated carbon to the filter.  Carbon is used to remove medications, odor and color from the water.  I am not sure if it diminishes over time but I would not take that chance if you have expensive fish.
