Question
I have a dalmatian molly that looks like she is about to explode.  I just bought her a few days ago and thought that she would have the fry that evening since shes so big. Its a few days later and nothing yet.  I'm just wondering if there are any ways to tell when she will have her fry?  also, I have rocks in my tank and plants where the fry can hide.  I hope thats enough......I've had previous fish that gave birth and the fry survived that way. I'm just a little worried about it this time because she is so big so I'm hoping there is enough room for them to hide.  thanx

Answer
She may be so big because she is an "experienced" Mom. The more times they get pregnant, the more babies they can have. Up to a certain point of course. Just watch for signs of her resting. She may lay on the rocks or find a leaf on a plant to rest on. You can also keep an eye on her vent, sometimes you'll be able to see it's a little open when they get close. Another sign would  be that she isn't very active or eating as much as usual, if at all. Good luck and Congrats :)
