Question
I have a small 10gl tank that Im currently holding 2 convict fry, about 5 or six small feeder guppies, two ghost shrimp(snuck in with guppies) and a small pleco. All of these will be going into a 55gl soon as the convicts get a lil bigger. I've heard that guppies are famous for breeding and the other day I noticed a tiny, tiny one swimming in the tank. Im not sure if it snuck in or was born in my tank. I've only seen the one so I assume the others may have gotten sucked up in the filter. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I check the tank twice a day so i assume they were born while i was at work. If I cover the filter with sponge/stocking wont that still kill them?

Answer
first off the convicts will eat both the shrimp and guppy.
and for the baby you can get a breeder box to hold them in usually never over 10 dollars. stocking will stop them from getting sucked in and you can remove them from the filter.
its possible they bred but the same female wont for another 3 weeks.
hope this helps.
