Feeding my flower horn

Question
Hi,
I have a question regarding certain diets with my flower horn. Everything got well until one day, when i gave it his preferred pellet meal, it just would not take it and just spits it out! I tried giving him other brands of pellet foods but again he would not take it. I starved him for three days and still wouldn't eat. He still looks healthy though but im just worried that why he is not taking pellet foods anymore? Out of my frustration    and concern, I chopped a small chunk of frozen lean meat, gave it to my fish and without any unnecessary testing it smack it all down! Does raw feeding healthy to my flower horn fish? He just seemd to like being fed with raw foods. I gave him frozen market prawns as his main diet now but need some help regarding this transformation of feeding... Am i doing the right thing? Could this be healthy to my fish? I've been feeding him pellets since he was 2 inches big. He's grown approximately 10 inches now. Would there be any chance that he might take some pellet foods again? Does raw feeding promotes growth too? Please help... I want  him to achieve his maximun growth size and build good body mass. I housed him in a 4' x 2'x 2' aquarium tank. Any sugestions or coments perhaps on this matter will be gladly appreciated. And thanks!

Answer
Dear Laskin,
The best I can tell you to do is keep working with him. It is common for cichlids to go through these odd changes like suddenly deciding to not accept their pellets. You have to just keep working with them by trying both frozen and freeze dried foods of great variety. You may also try canned crickets sold for reptiles. Few cichlids can resist this. Along with offering as much variety of foods as possible, sneak in a few pellets every now and then to try and tempt him. As a general rule, Flowerhorns will accept nearly everything.

There is a chance he will accept pellets again. Just keep working with him and give him some time. There is also a chance he may decide to never accept pellets again!

Best of luck and keep up hope!
Best wishes,
Karen~
